American Legion Post 36
Ed Thibault
May 8: The Post served a public breakfast, with a specialty of s.o.s.,
on Sunday, May 4. We had a good turnout of help, including the regulars
and Dick Brown and his son, Richard, who is home from Iraq for a short
time, as well as Leo Barter in the kitchen. We also had three Coast Guard
volunteers, Crystal Peters, Nick Dorfer and Brandon Mellur. The next
breakfast will be on Sunday, May 18.
When the young men and women deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan return
home, they will have changed. Their families will notice that change as
well. To be a soldier means sacrifice and commitment. Some of these
soldiers will come home limbless; some will come home mentally scarred;
and some will not come home at all. We should all say a prayer for these
good soldiers.
The controversial flag display at the University of Maine at Farmington
probably would have gone unnoticed if it had not been for a Vietnam
veteran and Legionnaire, and the commander of Post 28 in Farmington.
The Post would like to thank Bob Larsen this week. Bob is the person
who lines up all the people who work at the public breakfasts. It's not an
easy job but he is very good at it. Due to his disability, Bob cannot come
to the breakfasts and see his work in action. Thanks, Bob; without you,
the breakfasts would not be able to happen.
Sandy Rumery has had knee surgery so she won't be able to help at the
breakfasts. We will miss her because she brings the "good stuff."
American Legion Post 36 holds its business meetings on the second
Monday of each moth at 7:30 p.m. at the Legion Hall in Boothbay. Anyone
having Legion business should try to attend that meeting. | |
