State Surveyors Give Gregory Wing Nursing Home Top Marks
Staff
The Maine State Long Term Care Surveyors arrived in June for a three-day unannounced inspec-tion of St. Andrews Hospital and Healthcare Center's Gregory Wing nursing home. During their visit, they observed the medical care, medication passes, and all aspects of patient care while reviewing: dietary, housekeeping, physical plant, activities, social services, medical records, physical therapy, pharmaceutical services and infection control procedures. Quality of life and residents' rights are vital to a successful survey.
After the three-day survey, the announcement came that the Gregory Wing had again passed the state inspection with top marks and with no deficiencies. The surveyors commented again this year that this is ``truly a loving environment'' and went on to say how friendly and helpful the staff is, the caring environment, com-munity support, the multi-faceted activities and above all, the ``home-like'' atmosphere the Gregory Wing provides.
Surveyors interviewed family members and comments from families were consistent, they are pleased with the genuine concern and respect shown their relatives. The residents' families also make their appreciation known to the surveyors that this type of care exists within their community.
On the state survey results Peggy Pinkham, CEO of St. Andrews said``I am proud of what the Gregory Wing brings to our community and it is great to see the state of Maine validate what we know is done so well right here at `home.'''
Nancy Marcille, RNC, Director of Nursing of the Gregory Wing, was quoted regarding her staff, ``Thank you -- not just for those three intense, high stress days, but for the twenty-four hours a day, 365 days a year that everyone gives their all to make the Gregory Wing what it is... the best of the best.'' She went on to say, ``These have been trying times for all of us, but once again with the support of the staff, residents, families and community we've come shining through. Onward to year 2000 and St. Andrews Village!''
