Boothbay Town Office To Curtail Auto Registrations For Non-Residents
Staff
The Boothbay selectmen voted to stop issuing auto registrations and re-registrations for non-Boothbay residents until further notice.
Until now, the Boothbay Town Office staff has been processing registrations for residents of other local towns besides Boothbay.
But now, with new license plates being issued by the state, the towns are being given only a certain number of the new plates, said Town Manager Carlo Pilgrim, and he recommended to the board that the Town Office should be dedicated to serving first the citizens of Boothbay to ensure the supply of plates doesn't run out.
Furthermore, the process to register and re-register a vehicle now takes longer and is more involved because of the new plates. Board members agreed that the paper work and time involved did not warrant the small fees earned if employees have to contend with registrations for out-of-towners in addition to Boothbay residents. |
